What is the most important information I should know about Advair inhalation?

• Seek medical attention if you notice that you require more than yourusual or more than the maximum amount of a short-acting asthma medication ina 24-hour period advair drug inhaler. An increased need for medication could be an early sign ofa serious asthma attack advair drug inhaler.
• Do not use an inhaled, long-acting bronchodilator such as salmeterol(Serevent) or other inhaled steroid medicines during treatment with Advair inhalationunless otherwise directed by your doctor advair drug inhaler.
What is Advair inhalation?
• Fluticasone is a steroid advair drug inhaler. It prevents the release of substances in thebody that cause inflammation advair drug inhaler. Salmeterol is a bronchodilator advair drug inhaler. It works by relaxingmuscles in the airways to improve breathing advair drug inhaler.
• Advair inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks advair drug inhaler. It is used onlyto prevent asthma attacks, not to treat an attack already in progress advair drug inhaler. It willnot work fast enough to give relief during an attack advair drug inhaler.
• Advair may also be used for purposes other than those listed in thismedication guide advair drug inhaler.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Advair?
• Before using Advair, tell your doctor if you have
· a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection of any kind;
· ever had an allergic reaction to fluticasone (Flovent, Flonase) orsalmeterol (Serevent);
· heart disease or high blood pressure;
· epilepsy or another seizure disorder;
· diabetes;
· glaucoma;
· tuberculosis;
· an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism); or
· liver disease advair drug inhaler.
• You may not be able to use Advair inhalation or you may require a dosageadjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditionslisted above advair drug inhaler.
• Advair inhalation is in the FDA pregnancy C advair drug inhaler. This means that it is notknown whether Advair inhalation will harm an unborn baby advair drug inhaler. Do not use this medicationwithout first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant advair drug inhaler.
• It is not known whether Advair pass into breast milk advair drug inhaler. Do not use Advairinhalation without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding ababy advair drug inhaler.
• Advair inhalation is not approved for use by children younger than 12years of age advair drug inhaler.
How should I use Advair inhalation?
• Use Advair inhalation exactly as directed by your doctor advair drug inhaler. Read the informationinsert included with your inhaler advair drug inhaler. If you do not understand these directions,ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you advair drug inhaler.
• Advair inhalation is usually used as one inhalation twice a day (morningand evening approximately 12 hours apart) advair drug inhaler. Follow your doctor's instructions advair drug inhaler.
• To use the Advair (Advair Diskus) inhaler:

Close the Diskus advair drug inhaler. The Diskus is now ready for your next scheduled dose advair drug inhaler.
· To reduce the chance of developing a yeast infection in your mouth,rinse your mouth after using Advair inhalation advair drug inhaler.
· It is very important that you use your Advair inhaler properly, sothat the medicine gets into your lungs advair drug inhaler. Do not use a spacer with this product advair drug inhaler. Talk to your doctor about proper inhaler use advair drug inhaler.
· Never wash the mouthpiece or any part of the Diskus device advair drug inhaler. Keep itdry at all times advair drug inhaler.

• Continue to take any oral steroid (pills or liquid) that your doctorhas prescribed for you advair drug inhaler. Advair inhalation is not a substitute for an oral steroid advair drug inhaler.
• If you are switching from an oral steroid (pills or liquid) to Advairinhalation, carry or wear identification that will let others know that youmay require a systemic steroid during a severe asthma attack or during anothertraumatic situation advair drug inhaler. Discuss with your doctor the precautions necessary whendiscontinuing an oral steroid advair drug inhaler.
• Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat advair drug inhaler. The Diskus inhalation device is not reusable advair drug inhaler. Throw away the device 1 monthafter removal from the moisture-protective foil overwrap pouch or after everydose has been used (when the dose indicator reads "0"), whichevercomes first advair drug inhaler. There are 60 doses per Diskus advair drug inhaler. Do not attempt to take the deviceapart advair drug inhaler.
What happens if I miss a dose?
• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember advair drug inhaler. If it is almost time foryour next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and use the next oneas directed advair drug inhaler. Do not use a double dose of this medication advair drug inhaler.
What happens if I overdose?
• Seek emergency medical attention advair drug inhaler.
• Symptoms of a salmeterol and fluticasone overdose may include anginaor chest pain, irregular or rapid heartbeats, seizures, tremor, weakness, headache,nausea, and vomiting advair drug inhaler.
What should I avoid while using Advair inhalation?
• Avoid known items or activities that make you asthma symptoms worse advair drug inhaler. Clean areas where dust or pet fur may aggravate your condition advair drug inhaler.
• Avoid exposing yourself to known sources of infection advair drug inhaler. Stay away frompeople with chicken pox, measles, or any other type of infection advair drug inhaler. Your immunesystem may not be strong enough to fight off an infection while you are usingAdvair inhalation advair drug inhaler.
What are the possible side effects of Advair inhalation?
• Serious side effects from Advair inhalation are not likely to occur advair drug inhaler. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop using Advairinhalation and seek emergency medical attention or notify your doctor immediately:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat;swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
· chest pain or irregular heartbeats;
· numbness, tingling, or pain;
· a rash or unexplained open sores or bruising; or
· worsening breathing or asthma symptoms advair drug inhaler.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur advair drug inhaler. Continueto take Advair inhalation and talk to your doctor if you experience
· dry mouth, nose, or throat after use;
· yeast (or another) infection in the mouth or throat (white patches);
· hoarseness or deepening of the voice, cough, or sore throat;
· nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
· dizziness, headache, tremor, or nervousness advair drug inhaler.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur advair drug inhaler. Talk to yourdoctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome advair drug inhaler.
What other drugs will affect Advair inhalation?
• Before using Advair inhalation, tell your doctor and pharmacist if youare taking any of the following medications:
· another oral, nasal, or inhaled steroid;
· a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor),propranolol (Inderal), and others;
· a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan),phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate);
· a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), doxepin(Sinequan), nortriptyline (Pamelor), and others;
· a diuretic (water pill) such as hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril, Esidrix,Oretic, Microzide), chlorothiazide (Diuril), furosemide (Lasix), and others;or
· caffeine (in food or medicines), a diet medicine, or a decongestantsuch as phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine, or phenylephrine advair drug inhaler.
• You may not be able to use Advair, or you may require a dosage adjustmentor special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicineslisted above advair drug inhaler.
• Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Advair inhalationor affect your condition advair drug inhaler. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking anyprescription or over-the-counter medicines advair drug inhaler.
